What To Look For In The Best Lens For Portraits For A Sony A6000 Camera!

So rather than actually recommending a number of different lenses that you can use for portrait photography when using a Sony A6000 cameras we also want to go over the key features that we feel you should be looking for in a portrait lens. We feel that this will make it much easier for you to go off and assess the various lens options available to you and choose the perfect lens for you.

On the flip side of this though, if you just want a quick and easy option then we would recommend that you go out and pick up either the Sony 35mm lens or the Sony 50mm lens. Both have an excellent reputation within the portrait photography community while also providing some excellent image quality for your portrait photographys captured using the A6000.

So, first up when looking for a lens ideal for portrait photography, we have the focal length of the lens. Although this will depend on your personal style, your clients requirements, and to some extent the budget you have available, people usually choose a focal length from 35mm up to around 80mm. That said, anything over the 50mm focal point mark is usually specialist and not really ideal for general portrait photography.

Next up, we also have the build quality of the actual lens. Now, again, your budget is going to come into play for this one but if you are looking to spend over the Two Hundred dollar mark then build quality should be decent. Your manual focus ring should rotate smoothly without too much resistance or a chance of resistance as you rotate it. Keep in mind though, many lenses do add a little resistance to allow you to rotate the ring more accuratley.

In addition to this, we would recommend that you try to get a lens with either high quality Japanese glass or ideally, German Schott glass. This will ensure that the front lens element on the lens will be robust enough to take its fair share of knocks without chipping or taking any type of permanent damage.

Next up when looking for the best portrait lens for your a6000, we would recommend that you try to find a lens with the lens mount you require. For your Sony A6000, this is the Sony E mount lens and it is a very common lens type these days. This will remove the need for you to go off and purchase an adaptor or lens convertor to connect the lens you choose to your A6000.

Although lens adaptors have came along way over the last decade or so, many people still feel that they have a negative effect on your image quality and end up causing a number of issues.

That brings this article to a close and we feel provided that you stick to these core principals, you will be fine and end up with a solid little portrait lens that will help improve the image quality of the portrait photographs that you are able to capture when using your Sony A6000.
